![]() ![]() ![]() Why? How can you validate a SECURITY device that is probably not built to your standards? Sorry, but I would guess if they were able to get an Apple certified screen with a bio-metric button, did the repair themselves, they would not have the problem. I don't think this is to the degree of "arrogance" as one or two people indicate. It would be interesting to see the consumerist reaction if, for example Microsoft tried to pull such a stunt, the hysterical #outraged Twittersphere backlash would be in full swing before the ink had even dried on the court papers of the 5000 antitrust lawsuits.īut as this is fun-loving, cool, chic Apple, its Ok, in fact its encouraged by the continued custom of the masses. As long as that continues to be a viable business model then they will continue to get away with anti-competitive practices such as this.īy all means, as the touch sensor is an authentication device which can authorise payments, disable it as a security measure if its validity can't be confirmed, however bricking the entire device is using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut and is tantamount to vandalism IMO. Something I wish most other companies would invest a little time in.Īpple's arrogance never ceases to amaze me, however its not entirely their fault, there's no shortage of people who seem to be falling over themselves to camp out all night in the cold in order to be the first to buy vastly over-priced, locked down devices. Last year they reversed their policy on only allowing TRIM on Apple SSD's even, you can enabled it on anything now. I've seen countless sites dedicated to pirating their computer OS which is extremely easy to detect yet they do nothing to stop it. Tons of devices have had screens replaced, been jail broken and everything else without issue. ![]() On the surface news reports make Apple out to be worse than they are. And they don't have any software restrictions on computers, they just won't support a jailbroken device, which again I don't blame them for trying to stop that. You just had to buy the parts from them lots of times. You can indeed buy parts for and repair your computers last time I checked. Or get the bad review when someone's jail broken phone dies, or their after market battery catches on fire, etc.Īpple's main restrictions are on devices. People will say "But it's not them supporting it" but guess who will get the call when it dies. On a device they are going to have to support, I can see it. ![]()
